The glacial fed Kenai River flows from its headwaters at the mouth of Kenai Lake in Cooper Landing some 80 miles westward, where it flows out into the Cook Inlet. The Upper Kenai River drainage includes the Kenai Mountains. At the eastward point of Kenai Lake, the glacial fed Snow River pours in. The Upper Kenai River is considered the first reach of river that spans from Kenai Lake to Skilak Lake. |
Our specialty is fishing the very upper 7 mile long stretch of brilliant turquoise water from the outlet of Kenai Lake to Sportsman’s Landing where the Russian River dumps in. This section of water is drift only, so it is very peaceful. The scenery here is amazing, as you meander through the beautiful Kenai mountains. There is also much wildlife to see; you may run into eagles, moose, bear, beaver, and the occasional coyote. |
We target rainbow trout, dolly varden, and sockeye and coho salmon species using methods of fly fishing and spin fishing with light tackle. See our fishing info section for what time of the season is prime for each species. |
We offer 8 hour full day trips and 4 hour half day trips departing daily, and our departure times are very flexible. We can accommodate groups of 4 anglers per trip. If you would prefer a private trip for a group of 3 anglers or less, you will need to book 3 seats for the trip and we will give you the 4th. If you have a group of 2-3 anglers and do not reserve the full boat for a private trip, we will add other parties to the boat. There is a 2 person minimum for all Upper Kenai River trips. |
For all Upper Kenai River trips, please meet us at our office 15 minutes prior to departure time. |
